From our friends at the Glenn School

PASA will help host a volunteer recognition reception for The Franklin County Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition on April 26, 2011 in the Page Hall LAN Room. Students are invited to network and enjoy a meal from 5-6:30pm with volunteer tax preparers, many of whom work in the public sector.

The Franklin County EITC Coalition, which is supported by the City of Columbus, Franklin County and United Way of Central Ohio, works with volunteer to help hardworking low-and moderate- income families prepare their taxes and receive the refunds they need and deserve. The Coalition provides the necessary training to help volunteers become IRS certified volunteer tax preparers, and coordinates 17 free tax preparation sites across Franklin County.

Each year the EITC raises more working people above the poverty line than any other government program. Yet many people do not know they can claim the EITC when they file their taxes, and, in some cases, the refund they receive could be almost 25 percent of their annual income.

The service these volunteers provide will be celebrated at Page Hall and you are invited to join them.
If you would like to help set up for the party (3:45-5pm on 4/26), help serve as an honorary host/hostess (5-6pm on 4/26), or simply attend to thank the volunteers and network with them about their nonprofit service or government careers, please contact Kelli Arthur Hykes at kahykes@columbus.gov , hykes.8@osu.edu.
